Our 2023 clinician for the February 25 Arkansas Handbell Festival is Bob Avant. Bob is the Director of the “Austin (Texas) Handbell Ensemble” for more than 25 years and also the Director of "The Baylor Bronze" at Baylor University over 12 years. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors degree in Music Education, a Masters degree in Music (Instrumental Conducting) and a Masters degree in Education (Instructional Technology), Bob also served 13 years as a band director for Killeen Independent School District and Austin ISD and then worked at the Education Service Center, Region XIII for 17 years as a technology leader and consultant to 59 central Texas school districts. 
Ringing his first bell in the early 1980's, he soon assumed the role of Handbell Director at Austin First United Methodist Church, followed by Central Presbyterian Church of Austin and over 20 years at Austin First Baptist Church. 
Bob is a long time member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers (AGEHR) and has served as Area Chair. He is active as a clinician and also as an arranger with several published pieces for advanced handbell groups. One yearly conference he is involved with is the Baylor Center for Christian Music “Alleluia Conference.” The 2023 Conference “Many Voices One Song” will be held July 19-21. Check out this link for information. https://www.baylor.edu/alleluia/ Bob and his wife Louise, the former Minister of Music at Austin First Baptist Church have two children – Scott and Elizabeth, who both have careers in the field of music.
